The Serena Hotels management in Rwanda has pledged to offer support to orphans during annual festivals as a way of giving back to the community.
This was disclosed by the general manager of the Kigali Serena and country manager for Serena Hotels in Rwanda Charles Muia at a luncheon organised for the orphans in Kigali on December 25, 2013.
During the event the hotel donated items such as school material, clothes as well as roofing for a house.
“Through our social responsibility we decided to give back to the community by granting the Christmas wishes of 125 children under the care of the Christian Life Assemblies,” said Muia.
“We will commit to make the gifts giving an annual event as it enlightens the lives of the less privileged,” he added
Rosaline Uwimana, a twelve-year-old beneficiary for school materials expressed gratitude to the Hotel’s generosity.
“My mother won’t have to worry about getting me shoes because Serena has given them to me,” said Uwimana, who is raised by a single mother.
Serena and its staff support a broad range of charitable causes and community initiatives.
This includes cash, supply of foodstuffs or clothing, hosting of community events or provision of employee-time in the form of visits to orphanages, hospitals, old-people’s homes or mental institutions.
